I Love This Stuff

In my most recent article on my Examiner.com page, I did a write up about a new ad from Buell stating that it was ok not to wave to other motorcyclists because you are on a Buell. There are a couple of things that bothered me about this ad, the biggest being that we as motorcyclists need to stick together. Then to have a manufacturer come along and try to put a "snob twist" on their product? That only serves to drive a wedge into the biking community.

As I was checking the comments today, I read one from a Buell rider. He said that I can go ahead and "wave my arm off" and that he would wave back, "but only with one finger". My first reaction was, "Oh no, I offended someone."

Then I started to think about this...

Why is it that they were offended? I didn't attack them personally. Then the journalist in me finally received the caffeine that I had been pumping in for the last almost hour and kicked in the door of my thoughts. "The subject matter. You have brought out an emotional response from someone. You dragged that out of them, with nothing more than a few keystrokes."

Talk about a feeling of power. I think that I am going to enjoy my career...

I think that you have hit the nail on the head. It is one thing to have your friends and coworkers comment on your page as a show of support; but when you evoke a response from a member of the public then you know that you have written something that strikes on a deeper level. Way to prove that the pen is mightier than the sword!
